"We justify our actions by appearances; GOD examines our motives." (Proverbs 21:2)
People have a tendency to improve their appearance; to look good on the outside... to "appear" nicer, prettier, stronger, richer or greater than they are, or at least greater than they feel. That's great, if you're in "show biz." Godly character is much more beautiful than outward appearances. Godly character is not something that can be faked. That's why we need to read God's word. God's word is like a mirror that reveals what we truly look like to Him. When we work at improving what we look like to Him (on the inside), we automatically improve our looks on the outside. Anything else is just a mask... a show... a performance, and God is not into handing out Oscars.
