"These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." -JESUS
It's easy to say something and harder to do it; as the saying goes, "Talk is cheap." We say we'll help and when the day comes to help we are nowhere to be found. We say we will stand through this together then when pressure arises we defect. We tend to quickly use nice words; words that will entice, flatter or manipulate a situation. It could be we are too quick to say things before we really think through what we're saying and the commitment that it entails - that's why trust is such a major issue these days. When you think about it, these words are nothing more than lies. Well, Jesus sees the heart. He knows through track record of obedience who's hearts are His and who is merely performing lip service. We ALL do this so don't think I'm just pointing fingers. The question is what will we do with this information? Will we take it to heart and apply it to our lives and work on it to change the way we speak? Or will we just brush it aside and keep the flattery and manipulation going? Jesus is looking for people with hearts fully devoted to Him and His word not just those who say nice things. Are you one of those whom He can use, or will He simply pass by all the noise?
